Japan is home to some of the most unique café’s in the world. This list includes the famous maidcafé’s, animalcafé’s, Horror cafes and even coffee cafes.
However, hidden amongst the buildings of urban Tokyo is a cafe which is a ‘strong’ contender for the most unique establishment. This is none other than the Muscle girls bar in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. This is by far one of the unique places I have ever been to in my life. This says a lot because these articles have taken me to some very peculiar places over my time here.

The name says it already: this is a bar / café that is run by muscular girls who will serve and make your drinks. The waitresses here are incredibly strong and I take no shame in saying that they could easily beat me up. This is complemented by the gym outfits that they wear throughout the entire night.
But why? like any cafe, the answer is obviously to drink alcohol. This is pretty obvious to anybody who has ever been to a bar. However, this is far from your average experience. First the drinks can be somewhat peculiar with my friends staking up on both protein shakes instead of alcohol. While you enjoy your protein daiquiri combo you get to enjoy a spectacle of buff girls doing exercise like pull ups and pushups. The girls will exercise every 10 minutes or so to keep the audience entertained, and believe me: it works.
The bar uses (aside from real money that you use to buy drinks) its own currency called ‘muscle dollars’, you can purchase with real money. You can then use these dollars to let the girls do fitness-related things like. These girls are capable of squeezing an entire unpeeled lemon into your drink with their hands. If this doesn’t quite sound appealing, what about becoming their dumbbell and letting them curl you ? You can even use these muscle dollars to get publicly spanked if that’s what you’re in too. Hey, this is a judgment free zone, it makes for some amusement for all the innocent and slightly scarred bystanders. You can also work out at the bar yourself if you feel like putting that protein shake to good use. They even write down records for you to beat on your way to glory.
Overall I think the concept of the bar is really fun and its somewhere im already scheming to take my friends when they visit. The shock factor in this bar is insane and I personally cannot wait to see my friends’ perplexed visits when I take them here on their first night. The bar is an all-you-can-drink bar, which is always nice. It costs around 3600 yen for 1 hour which is pretty cheap since you normally pay a lot more at themed café’s.
